Missed Collection

If your container(s) were at the curb by 6:00 am and were not emptied, please contact Waste Management at kennewickinfo@wmnorthwest.com or 1 800 572-0618.

Note if the containers are difficult to see from the street. Leave the container(s) out, and they will be collected by the end of the next business day after notification.

Weather Delays Weather Delays (Snow, Wind, Flooding, etc.)

Public safety is a very high priority for Waste Management. When weather conditions prevent safe collection, we will announce service cancellations on local radio and television stations and on this website.

If your collection is prevented, please store materials until your next regularly scheduled collection day, when a double load will be collected at no extra charge.

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by collection delays, but the safety of both our drivers and the public is an urgent concern.

Collection Guidelines

Our new trucks lift and empty carts with robotic arms. The trucks significantly decrease pollution by using ultra-low sulfur fuel and particulate exhaust traps. The new system is safer, faster and neater.

Container Placement on Street Please put your garbage and recycling at the street by 6:00 am.

Place carts:

  • At least three (3) feet from cars, trees, mailboxes, fences
  • Two (2) feet apart
  • Cart wheels as close to the curb as possible
  • Cart lids opening toward street
When possible, trucks with robotic arms will lift, empty and replace the carts without the drivers leaving the trucks, reducing safety hazards and traffic congestion.

Please remove all containers from the street as soon as possible after collection.

Concrete, rocks, or dirt

Hazardous Waste Disposal

Left over waste from hazardous household products can be found in almost every home. The average family generally has more than 60 hazardous products in their home. Keeping hazardous waste in your home or garage can endanger the health and safety of your family and pets. Putting them in the garbage puts collectors and laborers at risk. Pouring them down the drain overloads sewage facilities and endangers fish and other animals.

Please label each jug with your name and address. Contaminated oil will be returned to you for proper disposal as hazardous waste.

Place securely closed jugs next to your recycling. Limit 2 gallons per collection.

Tips For Lowering Your Garbage Bill

  • Recycle as much as possible. You may be able to use a smaller garbage container for a lower rate. Set out as much recycling as you want for no extra fee.

  • Waste prevention is even better than recycling! Buy Recycled Products!
  • Compost your organic food scraps in a backyard composter to further decrease what goes into your garbage can. Look for local spring compost bin sales events.

  • Curbside recycling is unlimited. Set out as much as you want for no extra fee.

  • If you have more garbage to set out than you've subscribed for, a per-bag fee will be charged to your utility bill.
Before you buy, use or discard an item, ask yourself:

Reduce: Can I buy this product with less packaging?
Reuse: Can I or someone else use this again?
Recycle: Can I recycle this after I use it?
Buy Recycled: Can I get this item with recycled content packaging?
