As of January 1, 2005, all City of Seattle businesses are required to recycle paper, cardboard and yard waste. Waste Management Seattle provides commercial and industrial recycling services to businesses anywhere in the City, as well as outside the City.

Fines for Recyclables in Garbage:

Businesses are prohibited from putting significant amounts of paper, cardboard and yard waste in the garbage.  If garbage contains more than 10% recyclables, businesses may be fined.

  • Up to two 96-gallon mixed recycling carts (cardboard, paper, cans & bottles) per garbage account.
  • Carts emptied every other week at no charge.
  • Recycling education and information for employees.
